The new air-alert scale: how yellow differs from red
Ukraine’s air-raid alert now has two levels. Yellow is mostly drones. Red is missiles or a mass strike. The eTryvoga map now shows which one is on.

Who introduced this
In September 2026 the Cabinet of Ministers changed the warning rules. Resolution No. 1092 of 4 September splits the “Air raid alert” signal by threat level — yellow and red.
SESU explains the levels: yellow is a drone threat; red is missiles, a mixed missile-drone attack, or a mass drone strike. The Ukrainian Air Force passes this to the ground through the state warning system.
For people, both levels are an air-raid alert: go to shelter. Businesses may keep working on yellow if there is shelter for staff and visitors. Schools, kindergartens, and hospitals did not change: shelter regardless of colour.
What the colour means
Yellow level
Most often declared because of drones. Businesses may keep working — “provided safety requirements are strictly observed”.
Red level
Declared for missiles or a mass strike. Shopping centres and shops must close.
How eTryvoga alerts changed
We will now send a separate notification for each alert type.
A few caveats. If red is declared together with yellow, only red goes out. If only red is lifted, we send an all-clear that says yellow is still on.
